This marvelous Turn of the 20th Century guard chain is composed of fine 14k gold curb chain studded with bright purple amethysts. The oval faceted amethysts are set at regular stations along the chain. The piece is finished with a small swiveling dog hook, perfect for hanging all your favourite fobs and lockets. Circa 1900.

Victorian guard chains were very long and originally intended to wear watches clipped on dog hooks. They were originally worn with the chain tucked into a woman’s belt.

Details.....The chain is 48" long, the hook measures 17.8mm long and the piece weighs 10 grams. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces, we consider it part of the charm.
